Here are the main differences between SPC (Stone Plastic Composite) and WPC (Wood Plastic Composite) decking in the industry:

1. Material Composition
SPC decking is mainly composed of calcium carbonate (a stone powder-like material), PVC resin, and a small amount of additives. The calcium carbonate gives it a dense and hard structure, making it very stable.
WPC decking, on the other hand, is a composite of wood fibers (such as sawdust or wood flour), plastic (usually polyethylene or polypropylene), and additives. The combination of wood and plastic gives it a more natural wood-like texture in some aspects.

2. Durability and Water Resistance
SPC decking has excellent water resistance. Since it contains a large proportion of inorganic materials, it is not easily affected by moisture. It is highly resistant to swelling, warping, and rotting even in wet environments.
WPC decking also has good water resistance, but the presence of wood fibers means that it may absorb a small amount of water over time. In extreme and prolonged wet conditions, there is a slightly higher risk of swelling or mold growth compared to SPC decking.

3. Hardness and Wear Resistance
SPC decking is generally harder. Its stone-based composition makes it more resistant to scratches and dents, which is suitable for high-traffic areas. For example, in commercial applications or places with a lot of foot traffic and furniture movement, SPC decking can maintain its appearance better.
WPC decking is relatively softer due to the inclusion of wood fibers. While it still has good wear resistance, it may be more prone to surface damage under heavy impact or sharp object scratching compared to SPC decking.

4. Installation and Weight
SPC decking is often lighter in weight per unit area. This makes the installation process more convenient, especially for DIY projects. Its interlocking systems are usually easy to handle, and it can be installed more quickly.
WPC decking is generally heavier because of the wood fibers. Although it also has various installation methods, the heavier weight may require more effort during installation and may need stronger support structures in some cases.

5. Appearance and Aesthetics
SPC decking can be designed to have a very realistic wood grain pattern through advanced manufacturing processes. However, in some cases, it may still lack the natural "imperfections" that give wood its unique charm.
WPC decking, with its wood fiber content, can provide a more natural and organic look and feel. It can better mimic the texture and appearance of real wood, which may be more appealing to those who prefer a traditional wooden decking look.

In conclusion, both SPC and WPC decking have their own advantages and are suitable for different application scenarios and user preferences.
